As citizens, how much time do we give to clean the environment that we live in? If we make our environment dirty, then who is responsible for cleaning it up? Food for thought
Vumbanani for Peacebuilding (VFP), University of Venda (UNIVEN), Njhakanjhaka Tribal and other CBOs in Elim collaborated on an initiative aimed at triggering community members` responsible action towards keeping a clean environment. The cleaning campaign; (We care, do you) that was informed by a lot of trash dumped on riverbanks and gorges illegally, took place in Mabobo Village on Saturday the 26th of November 2022. Villagers, university students, and traditional leaders also took part in the cleaning, as every responsible citizen should.
A clean environment breeds healthy minds. Our environment, our life. This Rural Development initiative looks at where the dirty/trash comes from, how best community members could clean up, and what opportunities arise from this. All the 14 villages under Chief Njhakanjhaka in Elim are part of this initiative, including the 15th, which is Mpheni under Chief Davhana.
