Progress update

Human Rights are people’s rights, it is VFPs mission to have a Just, Peaceful and Developed South Africa through our advocacy and civic literacy work. Be the change that you would want to see.

The Access to Clean water and Decent Sanitation Campaign in Elim is ongoing with some tremendous achievements as VFP, Vhembe District Municipality and our local councillors are working hand in hand with us to ensure that the struggle to access clean water is reduced. A few boreholes have already been refurbished in ward 1 and VFP is looking forward to having more on that list. Strides into the long awaited bulk water supply from Nandoni Dam looks promising, as an opening facing Elim was established from the pipe that supplies water to Makhado as we await the response from the Provincial Water and Sanitation Department.

Issues of violence have been rising in Elim following Gender Based Violence and Femicide cases, bullying in schools as a result of unstable family lives in some instances, violence against community members due to crime activities, hatred and other related reasons. As an organisation that promotes Human Rights and Social Cohesion, VFP has embarked on a Peace Campaign dubbed; Promoting Oneness, following the above-mentioned challenges in the community and the unrest in Chavani, Bokisi, Shirley and Mashamba villages that left 3 non-nationals burnt beyond recognition in September 2022. The question that is frequently asked by many is; Why are we so bitter that we do not hesitate to inflict pain on those who are dear or close to us? The truth is, the answer lies within every individual. Let us learn to voice our concerns, speak out, listen to others, have time to observe, identify triggers of violence, and lastly find peaceful resolutions to our problems and differences. In the process, we would be building and developing our Elim, our Home.

November 25 to December 10th 2022, the whole world would observe this year’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence themed, UNITE! Activism to end violence against women and girls. This is a chance for every community member to learn and educate others on ways to mitigate violence and protect the vulnerable in our society. With the Festive Season approaching, many disputes centred on monetary issues are likely going to take place. Be the one to initiate peace. Say no to violence and promote oneness.
